02 Feb February Takedown Focus – Outside Step
So we have started another month which means we are moving on to new monthly areas of focus in our curriculum.
For any practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, or Wrestling takedowns are incredibly important. The ability to choose to stand or fight on the ground is of the utmost importance in Mixed Martial Arts. The outside step is one main way to get in on the legs with a shot. Why do I love it? It is generally easier since it is a more natural motion that is akin to running. It fits in well with stance switching and shifting which is a huge part of the striking and kickboxing game as it is applied in modern MMA. You see more and more wrestling teams in America teaching this more consistently and it is showing up more and more in fights and international competition.
Expect a ton of this in our Gi BJJ and No-Gi classes this month. Check the tape and let’s get to work.
