“Being an important part of growth and progression of others teaches us collective development. It is the greatest feeling in Martial Arts. Because you were there your teammate excels, You become a direct addition to their development. Without this you only understand you and what you want or need. That is an inability to control ego. It is a reality that many never learn. It becomes like a location they never knew existed.”

Dave Camarillo  –

“Our chief want in life is somebody who shall make us do what we can”

“A dojo is a miniature cosmos where we make contact with ourselves – our fears, anxieties, reactions, and habits.  It is an arena of confined conflict where we confront an opponent who is not an opponent but rather a partner engaged in helping us understand ourselves more fully.  It is a place where we can learn a great deal in a short time about who we are and how we react in the world.  The conflicts that take place inside the dojo help us handle conflicts that take place outside.  The total concentration and discipline required to study martial arts carries over to daily life.  The activity in the dojo calls on us to constantly attempt new things, so it is also a source of learning.”

-Joe Hyams

“If the opponent does not move, then I do not move.

At the opponents slightest move, I move first”

-Wu Yu Hsiang

-Josh Waitzkin

“There’s always ways of motivating yourself to higher levels. Write about it, dream about it. But after that, turn it into action. Don’t just dream.”

– Dan Gable

“Each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible.”
